Law enforcement agencies have arrested a person from Lyari on charges of being involved in an extortion incident, who allegedly sent a demand for 1.2 million rupees in extortion money and two pistol bullets to a businessman via a parcel service.

According to a press release issued by Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) on Wednesday, the accused, identified as Nasir alias Nana, was taken into custody during a joint, intelligence-based operation by Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) and police personnel in the Darya Abad area.

During initial investigation, the arrested person allegedly confessed that he, along with an accomplice, had sent an extortion slip and two 30-bore bullets to a rent-a-car owner via a Bykea delivery.

The statement further added that the accused later made threatening phone calls to the citizen from a WhatsApp number, in which death threats were given and he was warned of serious consequences if the demanded amount was not paid.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at the relevant police station in connection with this incident.

The arrested person has been handed over to the police for further legal proceedings, while authorities are conducting raids to find and arrest his accomplice.

A Rangers spokesperson has requested the public to immediately report any information about such criminal elements to the nearest check post or designated helplines to help prevent crime, and assured that the identity of all informants will be kept confidential.
