In a major initiative to strengthen traditional performing arts, the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi hosted its first ‘Musical Bethak’ based on classical music today at Hasina Moin Hall, establishing a new platform for the genre and its practitioners.
Organized by the Council’s Music Committee, the event was attended by a large number of artists, literary figures and music lovers and featured a mesmerizing performance by renowned classical singer Ustad Fateh Ali Khan.
The celebrated maestro captivated attendees, opening his set with Raag Vanti before presenting Basant Bahar and a thumri. The programme also included impressive performances from fellow artists Ustad Farhan Rais Khan and Izzat Fateh Ali Khan, showcasing the richness of the art form.
Speaking on the occasion, Music Committee Chairman Amjad Hussain Shah emphasised the importance of such gatherings in promoting fine arts and helping people stay connected with their cultural traditions. He described classical music as a refined discipline that requires a deep sense of appreciation.
‘Legends like Khan Sahib are invaluable assets to our cultural heritage,’ Mr Shah stated, adding that such artists have elevated the genre to great heights locally and internationally.
Ustad Farhan Rais Khan noted the event”s unique nature, observing that while many functions have been held at the venue, this was the first assembly of its kind dedicated to classical music. He praised the initiative for providing a valuable platform for young artists to learn and refine their skills.
He added that such events are vital for encouraging performers and play a crucial role in the promotion of classical music.
The gathering was hosted by Nauman Khan and attended by prominent personalities, including Special Events Committee Chairman Iqbal Latif, Aroosa Ali, and Director Admin Shakeel Khan.
