Discovery of substandard material and poor quality in health centers constructed by the Buildings Department in Jhang

Jhang, a city in Punjab, is facing serious allegations of large-scale corruption in its rural health centers and basic health units renovation projects. Reports indicate that over 380 million rupees were allocated for these essential healthcare infrastructure upgrades, but on-site inspections have revealed extremely poor workmanship and substandard materials.

Detailed estimates for these projects specified the use of high-quality materials, including premium electrical wiring, standard tiles, and other fixtures. However, sources familiar with the projects claim that inferior and substandard components were actually used. This alleged deviation has resulted in significant damage, poor quality fittings, and incomplete work across various hospital buildings, reportedly causing losses worth millions of rupees to the national treasury.

Internal information suggests that officials of the Buildings Department, including the Executive Engineer (XEN), Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), and a Sub-Engineer, are accused of collusion with contractors. This alleged collusion apparently facilitated the embezzlement of project funds, raising questions about the overall transparency and integrity of the renovation projects.

Community members and various social groups have expressed deep concern, labeling Jhang’s Buildings Department as a “bottomless pit” where public funds are regularly misspent or disappear without accountability.

In response to these serious allegations, concerned citizens and various advocacy groups are demanding immediate intervention from higher authorities. They have specifically urged the Chief Minister of Punjab, the Anti-Corruption Establishment, and other relevant bodies to take strict action against all culprits and prevent further depletion of public resources.
