Rs68 Billion Allocated for Karachi Development Projects

Spokesperson for the Mayor of Karachi and Parliamentary Leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Karamullah Waqasi, today stated that Pakistan’s overall progress is intrinsically linked to the development of Karachi, emphasizing that the PPP leadership is taking comprehensive measures to ensure the city’s prosperity.

Waqasi highlighted that under the leadership of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, practical steps were being undertaken to transform Karachi into a modern and developed metropolis. He further noted that Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah was taking a keen interest in resolving the city’s long-standing issues and ensuring the timely completion of development projects.

He said that under the dynamic leadership of Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, the city’s landscape was rapidly changing, with 2026 being designated as the year of completion for major development initiatives. Waqasi expressed confidence that all ongoing projects across the city would be completed within stipulated timelines to provide improved facilities to citizens.

The spokesperson revealed that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation was allocating approximately Rs68 billion this year for various development projects. He added that the mayor’s frequent visits to different areas and close monitoring of development work reflected the administration’s seriousness in improving urban infrastructure.

Waqasi further stated that development work was progressing swiftly in key areas, including Shadman Town and Shahrah-e-Bhutto, as well as other major roads and localities. “The target is to complete these projects by the end of June so that visible improvements can be witnessed across all towns of the city.”

Referring to a high-level meeting chaired by the Sindh Chief Minister, Waqasi said that development projects worth over Rs140 billion were underway across the province. He noted that major road infrastructure projects – including the Sindh Coastal Highway, Mehran Highway, and Rohri-Guddu Road – will play a pivotal role in boosting economic activity.

He emphasized that the Sindh government remained committed to improving infrastructure, ensuring transparency, and maintaining high standards in development work. Projects related to roads, energy, and other basic facilities are expected to significantly enhance industrial and commercial activities.

Concluding his statement, Waqasi reiterated that Karachi is the economic hub of Pakistan and serves as the backbone of the national economy. Therefore, the city’s development is synonymous with the country’s progress. He reaffirmed the commitment that the government, local bodies, and citizens will collectively work towards transforming Karachi into a model city.
