Weather – Scorching Temperatures, Hot Winds Forecast; Rain Expected in Northern Areas

Balochistan is bracing for a period of intense heat, with “Loo”-hot winds-expected to sweep across its southern plains, according to the Meteorological Department Quetta Regional Centre today. While much of the province anticipates scorching, dry conditions, some northern areas are forecast to receive light to moderate rainfall.

A synoptic situation issued by the Meteorological Department Quetta Regional Centre on Tuesday confirmed that continental air is presently prevailing over most parts of Balochistan. This atmospheric condition is expected to result in predominantly hot and arid weather across the majority of the province”s districts.

The southern plain areas of the province are particularly susceptible to exceptionally high temperatures. Hot winds, locally known as “Loo”, are specifically anticipated in the plain regions of Kech, Gwadar, Awaran, Hub, and Lasbela districts, posing a significant challenge to local residents.

In stark contrast to the widespread heat, partly cloudy conditions are expected in Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, and Musakhail. These northeastern districts face chances of light to moderate rain or thunderstorms at a few isolated locations.

Additionally, strong gusty winds may periodically affect the northeastern and coastal parts of the province over the next 24 hours.

The forecast for the subsequent 48 hours indicates a continuation of mainly hot and dry weather across most districts. The southern plain areas will likely remain very hot, with strong gusty winds expected to prevail over most of the province during this extended period.

Temperatures recorded over the preceding 24 hours underscored the prevailing heat. Turbat and Uthal registered the highest maximum temperatures at 44.5 degrees Celsius (°C), followed closely by Sibbi at 44.0°C, Lasbela at 43.5°C, and Usta Muhammad at 43.0°C. Other areas like Gwadar, Ormara, Pasni, and Jiwani also experienced maximum temperatures exceeding 40.0°C. Quetta City recorded a maximum of 29.0°C, while Ziarat was the coolest at 22.2°C. No rainfall was reported across the province during this period.
