Karachi Metropolitan Corporation will establish mangroves and biodiversity park and learning center at China Creek

Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is going to establish a mangroves and biodiversity park and learning center at China Creek, which is an important initiative for environmental sustainability and eco-tourism in the city. This project highlights KMC’s commitment to environmental protection and making Karachi’s future sustainable.

Mayor Murtaza Wahab said during a visit to the park site today that Karachi, which is Pakistan’s economic hub, is facing rapid urban development. However, he emphasized that environmental sustainability should remain a priority in urban development. The park is being considered a safe haven for Karachi’s natural ecosystem, which will provide educational and recreational opportunities while enhancing public engagement.

Mangrove forests, which are crucial for combating coastal erosion and rising sea levels, are central to this project. These ecosystems serve as important habitats and play a significant role in carbon sequestration, making them indispensable in the fight against climate change.

The mangrove and biodiversity park is a key part of KMC’s comprehensive green agenda, which includes renewable energy, urban forestry, and eco-tourism projects, facing growing environmental challenges from unchecked urban expansion.

Upon completion in November, the park will become a central hub for citizens, students, and tourists. It will include mangrove conservation areas, biodiversity trails, educational facilities, and eco-tourism activities, aimed at promoting environmental awareness.

Mayor Wahab thanked environmental expert Tariq Alexander Qaiser for their valuable support in turning this vision into reality. This project marks a significant step towards a greener, more sustainable Karachi.
