In a significant development, the main suspect in the notorious Hasher Taj assault case has been arrested by law enforcement agencies today in the Bokot area. This case revolves around the tragic incident of 13-year-old Hasher Taj Awan, who was found unconscious in a deserted graveyard on May 4, and was subjected to sexual and physical abuse.
The suspect, who is Noman, son of Tahir, was successfully apprehended after an intense pursuit across multiple cities. He repeatedly changed his appearance to evade arrest and avoided using mobile phones, but the police tracked down his whereabouts using modern scientific and technical methods. This progress in the investigation has been viewed with widespread relief and appreciation by the local community.
A formal case was registered at Bokot police station after a complaint was filed by the victim’s mother, which triggered an extensive investigation to search for the attacker. Noman, a resident of the same village as the victim but recently residing in Rawalpindi, made considerable efforts to evade authorities. His arrest was the result of coordinated raids in several cities, including Karachi, Rawalpindi, Quetta, Chilas, and Dir.
The suspect is currently on a three-day physical remand and will be presented in court upon its conclusion. Initial investigations have revealed that Noman acted independently, traveling from Rawalpindi specifically to commit the crime. Further investigations are ongoing to uncover the full details of this heinous act.
Residents of Bokot have hailed this arrest as a major achievement, expressing gratitude to the Abbottabad police force, particularly DSP Galyat Jamil Rehman Qureshi, SHO Bokot Kashif Khan, and the dedicated investigation team for their relentless pursuit of justice. This incident, which instilled fear within the community, underscores the need for preventive measures to avert such tragedies in the future.
