Provincial Minister Bilal Akbar Khan’s visit to Jhang District, detailed inspection of the mourning procession routes

Provincial Minister of Transport Bilal Akbar Khan and Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab Zeeshan Malik arrived in Jhang today to conduct a thorough inspection of the arrangements for the Muharram mourning procession, highlighting the importance of security and community cooperation.

Accompanied by Faisalabad Commissioner Musarrat Jabeen and Regional Police Officer Suhail Akhtar Sukhaira, the officials reviewed security and logistical measures for the 7th Muharram procession, considered one of the most sensitive events in Pakistan. Deputy Commissioner Ali Akbar Bhundar and DPO Sajid Hussain also participated in the visit.

The team reviewed monitoring systems, including CCTV surveillance on the four-kilometer procession route, a crucial aspect given the historical significance of the procession and past security concerns. In the past, the procession has been targeted by sectarian violence, particularly in the 1970s and 1990s, necessitating robust security protocols with the Pakistan Army, Rangers, and police force.

Officials expressed satisfaction with the arrangements, which included measures to refresh and cool down the participants, such as sprinkling rose water and using anti-smog guns. The peaceful conclusion of the procession was evidence of effective collaboration among district authorities, law enforcement agencies, and community leaders.

The visit underscored the commitment of provincial authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of participants in religious events, reflecting a broader effort to maintain peace and harmony during sensitive occasions.
