Punjab’s study delegation visits KMC, meets Mayor

Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab said today that Karachi is the backbone of Pakistan’s economy and one of the country’s largest commercial hubs.

“Pakistan’s economic progress is directly linked to the development of Karachi and stressed the need to promote a positive image of the country’s major cities, he said while meeting participants of the 29th Public Policy and Governance (PPG) Course of the Punjab Institute of Management and Professional Development (PIMPD), Lahore, who visited the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) as part of their study tour. Municipal Commissioner KMC Abrar Jaffar, Senior Director Coordination to the Mayor Akhlaq Ahmed, Director of the Media, Public Relations and Publications Department Daniyal Sial, and other officials were also present.

Mr Wahab said that the people of Karachi had given their mandate to the Pakistan Peoples Party, and that elected local government representatives were working to resolve public issues and improve the city in line with the expectations of its residents. He said development projects were underway across Karachi and that every possible effort was being made to restore the city’s identity as the “City of Lights,”

He said that industrial and commercial activities in Karachi were continuing without disruption, enabling the city to move towards new avenues of growth and development. He said continuous efforts were being made to improve various sectors, adding that when Karachi prospers, Pakistan becomes stronger. He noted that the promotion of industry and trade would create new employment opportunities, improvements in educational institutions would produce a skilled workforce, and the development of urban infrastructure would reduce the daily hardships faced by citizens while improving their quality of life.

The Mayor Karachi said that achieving these objectives required every citizen to treat Karachi as their own city and cooperate with the provincial and city governments in ongoing development initiatives. He added that just as people keep their homes clean, they also have a responsibility to keep their city clean and well-maintained. He described Karachi as a blessing and urged citizens to value and protect it.

He said that thousands of people continued to arrive in Karachi every day, and that the city welcomed everyone with open arms. He added that people from across Pakistan came to Karachi to benefit from the free medical facilities available at its public hospitals.

The Mayor Karachi said that effective planning, timely implementation, and continuous monitoring were essential for the development of any sector. He said these were the fundamental principles of good governance and management, adding that the leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party was taking practical steps under the same vision to provide better facilities to citizens across Sindh, including Karachi. He said the process of development and improvement would continue in the years ahead.

On the occasion, Municipal Commissioner KMC Abrar Jaffar gave a detailed briefing on the performance and functions of various departments of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and informed the participants about the municipal services being provided to citizens.

The participants of the 29th Public Policy and Governance (PPG) Course of the Punjab Institute of Management and Professional Development (PIMPD), Lahore, described their visit as highly informative and useful. They thanked Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab for providing valuable insights into Karachi’s administration, development initiatives, and municipal affairs.

At the conclusion of the visit, the Mayor Karachi presented a commemorative shield on behalf of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation to the head of the Public Policy and Governance Course delegation.
