Balochistan Bans Public Gatherings, Political Activities

The Government of Balochistan’s Home Department today imposed a 30-day ban on all kinds of public gatherings, political meetings, rallies, processions, and related activities, as well as pillion riding-except where specifically exempted by the competent authority-and the display, carrying, or exhibition of arms and ammunition within the limits of District Kech (Turbat).

An order issued by the Government of Balochistan’s Home Department, stated, “The Government of Balochistan has received credible reports indicating that the prevailing law and order situation in District Kech (Turbat) is fragile, with a likelihood of disturbances to public peace and tranquility arising from unlawful assemblies, political activities, pillion riding, and the display or carrying of arms and ammunition, which may adversely affect public safety and security.”

The order further stated, “The Government is satisfied that immediate preventive measures are necessary to avert any untoward incident, maintain public order, protect life and property, and ensure peace and tranquility within the territorial limits of District Kech (Turbat).”

The order added, “Therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred under sub-section (6) of Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, the Government of Balochistan, Home Department, hereby prohibits, for a period of thirty (30) days within the limits of District Kech (Turbat):

(i) All kinds of public gatherings;

(ii) All political meetings, rallies, processions, and related activities;

(iii) Pillion riding, except where specifically exempted by the competent authority; and

(iv) The display, carrying, or exhibition of arms and ammunition.”
