A coach of the Lahore-to-Karachi Shalimar Express derailed near Khanewal Railway Station on Sunday, briefly disrupting rail services, although no passengers were injured, Pakistan Railways officials said.
The incident occurred when one coach of the 28-Down Shalimar Express left the tracks while travelling from Lahore to Karachi. Railway authorities confirmed that all passengers remained safe and that no fatalities or injuries were reported.
A relief train was dispatched from Multan to the site as officials began efforts to remove the derailed coach and restore normal train operations. The derailment caused a delay of around one hour, according to railway authorities.
A spokesperson for Pakistan Railways’ Multan Division said an inquiry had been initiated to establish the cause of the incident, while technical teams were carrying out repairs on the affected section of the track.
Railway officials said additional information would be released once the preliminary investigation had been completed.
