Official Shot Dead While Trying to Rescue Woman

A Pakistan Air Force (PAF) group captain was shot dead after intervening to assist a woman who was allegedly being taken against her will in Islamabad, police said on Sunday, as authorities launched a manhunt for the suspected gunman.

The incident occurred on Ninth Avenue when Group Captain Asim, who was driving through the area, noticed a motorcyclist allegedly attempting to force a woman to accompany him, police said. The officer stopped his vehicle and stepped in to help.

According to police, the woman moved to the opposite side of the officer’s vehicle during the confrontation. The suspect, identified as Saad, allegedly exchanged heated words with Group Captain Asim before opening fire.

The officer suffered critical gunshot wounds and died at the scene, while the suspect escaped, police said.

Police have registered a criminal case and initiated an investigation. They said the woman’s statement has been recorded as part of the inquiry.

In her statement, the woman alleged that the suspect was her colleague at the same office. She said he had offered to drop her at work but allegedly diverted the route and attempted to take her to another location against her will. She further alleged that when she resisted, he tried to force her, prompting Group Captain Asim to intervene.

Authorities said multiple raids are being conducted to arrest the suspect, adding that the investigation is ongoing.

Group Captain Asim is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter.

The killing triggered an outpouring of tributes on social media, where many users hailed the officer’s courage and selfless actions. Law enforcement officials said efforts were continuing to apprehend the suspect and bring him before the courts.
