The International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, will organize an international symposium titled “Sustainable Agriculture Under a Climate Change Scenario: From Seeds to Biopesticides, Biostimulants and Biofertilizers” on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.
According to an ICCBS spokesperson, the symposium will be held at the Prof Salimuzzaman Siddiqui Auditorium. Prof Dr Muhammad Raza Shah, Director of ICCBS, said that the symposium aims to address various aspects of sustainable agriculture, including seed purity and future breeding initiatives to develop cotton varieties and hybrids suitable for farmers, ginners, and the textile industry, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions.
Raza said that ICCBS is actively contributing to overcoming these challenges through strong industrial collaboration across the entire agricultural value chain, ranging from seed development to the production of biopesticides, biostimulants, and biofertilizers. He added that research on seed purity has been funded by the textile industry, while the biopesticides project is being supported by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) under its Technology Development Fund (TDF).
The inaugural session of the symposium will be addressed by Prof. Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman, Professor Emeritus and former Federal Minister for Science and Technology; Prof. Dr. Muhammad Raza Shah, Director of ICCBS; Prof. Kauser A. Malik; Prof. Dr. Bina Siddiqui of ICCBS; Dr. Kashif Riaz Khan of the Nuclear Institute for Agriculture and Biology (NIAB); Prof. Dr. Shahid Mansoor; Dr. Nizamudin Depar; and Dr. Farooq A. Khan of ICCBS.
The symposium will bring together research scholars, students, scientists, professionals, and faculty members from public and private universities across Sindh to discuss innovative and sustainable solutions for agriculture in the face of climate change.
