Nine policemen martyred in Balochistan; 15 militants eliminated by security forces

Pakistani security forces killed 15 militants in anoperation after an attack on a police post in the Balochistan province martyred nine policemen, officials said on Tuesday.

Nine police personnel, including two station house officers (SHOs), were martyred after heavily armed militants launched a coordinated assault on a police checkpost in Balochistan’s Ziarat district, officials said on Tuesday.

Following the attack, security forces carried out a joint clearance operation in the Mangi area of Ziarat, killing 15 militants, according to Shahid Rind, Adviser to the Balochistan Chief Minister on Information.

Rind said the operation was conducted jointly by the Frontier Corps (FC), Balochistan Police, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), the Special Operations Wing (SOW), and the Anti-Terrorism Force (ATF), adding that the area had been successfully cleared of militants.

Earlier, the Ziarat Superintendent of Police said the attackers had targeted a police checkpost in the Kach Mangi Phase III area, triggering an intense gun battle that continued throughout the night.

Among those martyred were SHO Mangi Muhammad Hussain and SHO Kowas Sohbat Khan. Officials said the remaining casualties were police personnel stationed at the checkpost during the assault.

The bodies of the slain officers were shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Ziarat, while security was tightened across the district to prevent any further attacks.
