A new system of digital payments introduced in KMC, all payments will be directly transferred to bank accounts through Raast

Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is poised to become a pioneer in digital finance by implementing a comprehensive e-payment system. According to a statement issued today, this initiative will be led under the patronage of Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, under which all financial transactions will be conducted through the Raast platform, marking the first instance of complete digitalization of payments by any municipal body in Pakistan.

Starting from the fiscal year July 2026, KMC will ensure that all payments are directly transferred to the bank accounts of vendors, contractors, and other approved entities. This initiative is expected to significantly improve transparency, governance, and financial discipline within the organization.

The adoption of the Raast platform will enable secure, fast, and real-time fund transfers, effectively eliminating cumbersome paperwork and delays characteristic of traditional payment methods. Mayor Wahab emphasized that this is not merely a technical upgrade but a revolutionary change in the municipality’s financial operations, aimed at enhancing financial oversight, increasing transparency, and reducing expenses.

Additionally, this initiative positions KMC as the first municipal body to transition to a cashless financial model, as approved by the Accountant General of Sindh. It is regarded as a major step towards the implementation of a modern financial system.

KMC’s financial advisor, Gulzar Abro, provided a detailed briefing on the project’s features, implementation strategy, and timeline, reaffirming the city’s commitment to innovation and efficiency in public service.
