In Thatta, employees of the lower staff of the Education Department today staged a protest demanding an immediate review of their financial compensation amidst the rising wave of inflation.
The protesters, consisting of lower-level employees, started their rally from Public Park Makli and advanced towards the National Press Club Thatta, expressing their demands through enthusiastic slogans. The rally concluded in a demonstration, where leaders of the lower staff association, including District President Abdul Karim Khaskeheli and General Secretary Rashid Samo, addressed the crowd.
The leaders highlighted the plight of these employees, who are recruited in Grade One and remain in the same salary grade until retirement at age 60. They expressed serious concern over the inadequacy of allowances for housing, medical needs, and transportation, which have become unbearable in the current economic environment.
The protesters highlighted the absence of a time scale in their salary structure and the lack of salary adjustments according to inflation rates. The economic difficulties faced by these employees have become severe, while the cost of living has increased compared to their stagnant salaries.
The collective demand was clear: any upcoming budget should include a raise in salaries according to inflation rates, along with significant improvements in medical and housing allowances. The protesters warned that if these grievances are not addressed, more intense protests could occur in the future.
