A strict campaign to ensure the use of helmets among motorcyclists in Rawalpindi has been launched today, with authorities adopting a zero-tolerance policy on major routes like Mall Road and Peshawar Road.
Rawalpindi’s Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Farhan Aslam has initiated the deployment of special teams at all entry points of the city. The primary aim of this enforcement is to safeguard citizens’ lives, not to generate revenue, as Aslam stated. His concern is also reinforced by startling statistics that show 73% of fatal accidents involve motorcyclists, with head injuries being the primary cause of death.
The ongoing helmet enforcement campaign has already achieved a 40% reduction in head injury cases. However, the CTO emphasizes the need for further reduction to relieve pressure on hospitals’ emergency services.
Authorities urge citizens to wear helmets to avoid both fines and accidents. Farhan Aslam stresses that helmet use should be based on safety rather than fear of fines. He also highlights that the use of the right helmet and adherence to lane discipline are essential to ensure a safe journey.
