Under the guidance of the Prime Minister, the federal cabinet today approved the National Agricultural Biotechnology Policy 2025, which is a significant advancement in the field of modern agriculture and farmer development.
This newly approved policy provides a foundation for cultivating agriculture on the most advanced, scientific principles. The policy has been developed through extensive consultation over two and a half years, involving scientists, agricultural experts, industry partners, and relevant institutions, and is poised to transform the agricultural landscape revolutionarily.
The central focus of the policy is to support farmers, ensure food security, increase agricultural production, encourage prudent investment, and advance modern agricultural technology. By leveraging biotechnological innovations, the policy aims to enhance crop yields, reduce losses, and tackle climatic challenges.
A key step under the policy is the approval of genetically modified maize, which has successfully passed Pakistan’s stringent safety and regulatory reviews. This development is expected to boost the country’s maize export revenue from the current $288 to $345 million range to one billion dollars.
Effective implementation of the National Agricultural Biotechnology Policy is anticipated to significantly increase agricultural production, improve export figures, and raise farmers’ incomes, making it a pillar for agricultural prosperity.
