President Asif Ali Zardari has issued a stern warning to the Afghan Taliban, declaring their regime has crossed a ‘red line’ and will face ‘grave consequences’ following rudimentary drone attacks targeting civilian areas in Pakistan.
In a strongly worded statement today, the President condemned the attacks carried out by what he described as Afghan Taliban elements. He characterised the administration in Afghanistan as an “illegitimate regime” installed by “terror and brute force,” accusing it of audacity in provoking a major military power of the Islamic world.
Mr Zardari asserted that the neighbouring administration has persistently reneged on its commitments to deny safe sanctuaries to terrorist organisations. He highlighted the provocative timing of the attacks, noting they occurred while Pakistan remains actively involved in fostering peace and stability throughout the Gulf region and West Asia.
The President expressed his best wishes for the rapid recovery of children and other civilians who were injured by falling drone debris in Quetta, Kohat, and Rawalpindi.
Concluding his remarks, President Zardari reaffirmed the steadfast commitment of Pakistan’s armed forces and security institutions to the nation”s defence and the protection of its people.
