Afzal Guru, Maqbool Butt remembered in IOK

Srinagar, February 09, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Hurriyat leaders and organizations have eulogized the sacrifices of prominent Kashmiri liberation leaders, Muhammad Afzal Guru and Muhammad Maqbool Butt, on their martyrdom anniversaries. India had sent Muhammad Afzal Guru to gallows in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail on 9th of February, 2013 and Muhammad Maqbool Butt, on 11th of February, 1984 for their role in the ongoing Kashmir freedom movement. Their bodies remain buried in the premises of the jail.

The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Freedom League, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani in a statement in Islamabad, remembering Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru on their anniversaries demanded of India to transfer the moral remains of the two martyrs to occupied Kashmir.

Illegally detained Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples League, Mukhtar Ahmed Waza, in a statement in Srinagar urged the world community to support the Kashmiris’ demand for handing over of the mortal remains of Shaheed Maqbool Butt and Afzal Guru to their families.

The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Employees Movement, Muhammad Shafi Lone in a statement in Srinagar said the best way to pay tribute to Shaheed Maqbool Butt, Shaheed Afzal Guru and other thousands of martyrs is to remain steadfast in the movement for which Kashmiris have rendered unprecedented sacrifices.

Hurriyat leader, Firdous Ahmed Shah, in a statement in Srinagar said Shaheed Muhammad Moqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru are heroes of the Kashmiri people. He said that the two leaders were denied a fair trial and they were hanged only to satisfy collective conscience of Indian people which was condemnable.

The Chairperson of Muslim Khawateen Markaz, Yasmeen Raja, in her statement in Srinagar remembering Afzal Guru and Maqbool Butt on their anniversaries reiterated the Kashmiris’ resolve to continue liberation movement till it reached its logical end. The Young Men’s League continued signature campaign in Srinagar seeking return of the mortal remains of Maqbool Butt and Afzal Guru. The party chairman, Imtiaz Reshi, said people in large number are participating in the campaign.

The General Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Political Movement, Khawaja Firdous Wani in his statement in Srinagar praised Maqbool Butt and Afzal Guru for their great sacrifices and termed them heroes of the Kashmiri people. He said that they sacrificed their lives for the Kashmir cause.

The Chairman of United Jihad Council (UJC), Syed Salahuddin, in a statement paying homage to Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Afzal Guru on their anniversaries said, “February 9 and 11 remind us that Indian judiciary instead of delivering justice is giving verdicts according to the will of its government.” He said the purpose of the execution of Afzal Guru and Maqbool Butt was to suppress the freedom struggle but history stands testimony to the fact that it became much stronger and every Kashmiri is involved with the ongoing movement.
