Al Jazeera banned in India

New Delhi, August 26, 2018 (PPI-OT): English TV news channel, Al Jazeera has gone off air in India as the Indian government has withdrawn the security clearance of the channel for airing a documentary on Kashmir.

Media reports said that the decision to withdraw the security clearance was taken by the Indian Home Ministry after the broadcast of a documentary on Kashmir.

Al Jazeera English is run by AJI International Pvt Ltd. The channel told the government of India in its representation that the documentary on Kashmir devoted a substantial 10 minutes to the views of Indian government’s officials.

It is to mention here that the Al-Jazeera channel was banned in India earlier as well. In 2015, the channel was suspended for five days for showing parts of Jammu and Kashmir in Pakistan and China in a map. At that time, the channel put out a blank screen for five days with the following message: “As instructed by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, this channel will not be available from 00.01 hours on April 22 till 00.01hours on April 27, 2015.”
