KARACHI: Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) held a protest in front of the Karachi Press Club (KPC) here on Sunday to condemn the 86-year imprisonment of Dr Aafia Siddiqui.
Addressing the demo PDP Chairman Altaf Shakoor said that the day of September 23, 2010 is the black day in the history of human rights as on this day law and justice was murdered by an American judge Richard Berman who sentenced Dr Aafia for 86 years illegally.
He said the role of successive governments in Pakistan in the case of Dr Aafia Siddiqui has remained shameful. He said Aafia Siddiqui is a Pakistani citizen and highly educated scholar but our rulers simply betrayed her. He said till now no Pakistani government has demanded from the US administration to release Aafia.
Altaf Shakoor said governments in other parts of the world take keen interest if their citizens are jailed abroad and mobiles all resources to secure their earliest release, but this is not the case in Pakistan where the successive governments adopted a shameless mum on the case of Dr Aafia Siddiqui.
He said showing full solidarity to the cause of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, the PDP is holding protests in different cities and towns of the country.
He demanded from the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to raise the case of Dr Aafia before the US government during his upcoming visit to the USA. He urged all peace loving citizens of the world to raise a strong voice for Aafia who is enduring worst torture in American jail.
