Srinagar, May 29, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Joint Resistance Leadership has emphasized that the people of Kashmir cannot become part of any ambiguous talks process, which has no clarity and direction. This was said in a statement issued after a meeting of the Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik. The meeting was held in Srinagar, today, for a detailed deliberation on the current prevailing political situation in occupied Kashmir. The JRL also took stock of the statements by Indian leaders regarding the so called talks on Kahsmir.
The statement said that the resistance leaders had always advocated a political redressal of the Kashmir conflict as they believed that dialogue among stakeholders was the best process and option available. The leaders pointed out that the Kashmir dispute had three stakeholders, Pakistan, India and the People of Kashmir and the absence of any of the stakeholders in the process would not yield any solution.
The resistance leaders asked India to express in clear words on what it wanted to talk about and what would be the agenda of talks. They maintained that the recent statements of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Interior Minister Rajnath Singh had made the talks offer totally ambiguous as these statements suffered from discrepancies and self contradiction. These statements were given while totally ignoring the historical background of Kashmir problem, its internal and external dimensions, the daily aggression carried out by lakhs of Indian troops against the people and the volatile situation near the Line of Control. The JRL said that in such a situation, no talks with India would become successful and result oriented.
Complete shutdown was observed in Shopian district, today, to raise demand for justice to two young women, Aasiya and Neelofar, who were raped and murdered by men in uniform on this day in 2009. Call for the strike was given by the Joint Resistance Leadership comprising. All shops, business establishments and educational institutions were closed while traffic was off the road. On May 29, 2009, Aasiya and Neelofar were abducted by Indian troops from their orchard, who raped and murdered them before throwing their bodies in a shallow stream.
Meanwhile, the family members of Aasiya and Neelofar, Kashmir Tehreek-e-Khawateen and the women wing of Salvation Movement staged separate protests in Srinagar to press for a fair probe into the gruesome incident. Hurriyat leaders Shabbir Ahmed Dar, Yasmeen Raja, Imtiyaz Ahmed Shah, Bashir Andrabi and others also joined the protest. The protesters carried banners and placards demanding stern punishment to the perpetrators of the heinous crime.
Senior APHC leader Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, in a statement issued in Srinagar urged India to show seriousness and enter into a meaningful dialogue to settle the Kashmir dispute. More than five dozen houses, a large number of vehicles and some orchards were damaged as Indian troops went on a rampage in Sugan area of Shopian district. The locals told media that the troops entered the area and started vandalism.
