An order has been issued to initiate criminal and federal cybercrime investigations against a social media campaign targeting the judiciary, following the acquittal of the accused by the court in the Umme Rubab Chandio case.
This directive was issued today by the Sessions Judge of Dadu, Mr. Zahid Hussain Maitlo, through two separate letters sent to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cybercrime Wing Hyderabad and the Station House Officer (SHO) of A-Section Police Station Dadu.
In his letters, the judge stated that some individuals are using the court’s recent decision as a pretext for online character assassination against the judges and the judicial system.
The letters stated that these elements are spreading defamatory material and posts that are damaging the self-respect of judicial officers, including himself, and are causing humiliation to the institution of the judiciary.
Consequently, Judge Maitlo has directed the local police SHO to register a First Information Report (FIR) against the individuals involved and has ordered the FIA to immediately initiate an investigation into the defamatory social media content and the individuals responsible for its dissemination.
This response is related to the recent verdict in the Umme Rubab Chandio case, in which the accused were acquitted due to the case not being proven. Following this decision, a wave of critical posts against the judiciary and the concerned judges emerged on various social media platforms.
