Srinagar, February 28, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) has condemned the arrest spree and nocturnal raids on pro-freedom leaders. A JKLF spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said Indian police have arrested party vice Chairman, Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi and shifted him to Kothibagh police station. He said party Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik has also been languishing in police custody since February 22. Senior member Mushtaq Ahmad Korag and many others are also in police custody, he added.
The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference, Shabbir Ahmed Dar in a statement in Srinagar expressed concern over the war-like situation in Kashmir created by India and raids on Hurriyet leaders. He said such situation and brutal policy of India will not weaken determination of Kashmiris of their righteous demand of right to self-determination. He paid glowing tributes to the martyrs of Sopore, Kulgam and Shopian and said the situation in Kashmir is turning from bad to worse by creating war hysteria and a situation of fear and intimidation.
He said the arrest of hundreds of Hurriyet and religious leaders and activists including Mohammad Yasin Malik .Dr Abdul Hameed Fayaz, Ghulam Nabi Waseem, Jamiat Ahle Hadaas leadership along with hundreds of religious and political activists and the NIA raid on the residences of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Mohammad Yasin Malik, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, Masarrat Aalam Butt, Naseem Gilani, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Zaffer Akber Butt and Yasmeen Raja shows the fascist mind-set of the Indian forces.
Hurriyat leader, Mushtaq-ul-Islam in his statement, paying tributes to the youth martyred in Maiminder Shopian, expressed solidarity with their family members. He said sacrifices of Kashmiri youth are priceless asset for the ongoing freedom movement and it is because of the lingering Kashmir dispute the region is witnessing bloodshed and destruction each passing day at the hands of Indian forces and paying heavy price of subjugation.
He said that peace won’t prevail in the region unless Kashmir dispute is settled as per the aspirations of its subjugated people and the mission of martyrs will continue till it reaches its logical conclusion. Hurriyat leader and the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples League (JKPL), Mukhtar Ahmad Waza in a statement in Srinagar urged India and Pakistan to desist from war-mongering, saying dialogue and not war is the way forward. He warned even a spark can set afire the entire region as India and Pakistan are nuclear powers.
Meanwhile, close on the heels of India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) action, the sleuths of Income Tax Department from different parts of North India carried out simultaneous raids in the premises of a Hurriyat, prominent hotelier and a businessman in and around Srinagar city.
