A civil judge of Karachi East has ordered to block the national identity card and issue an arrest warrant for senior police officer Mumtaz Brohi for his repeated non-appearance in a torture case.

The court today formally directed the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to suspend the identity card of the former CIA in-charge Thatta. NADRA officials will have to submit an implementation report at the next hearing scheduled for January 20.

In another directive, an arrest warrant has also been issued for Brohi, the current CIA in-charge of Khairpur. The order for his arrest will be implemented through the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) East.

These judicial actions were taken due to the police officer’s continuous absence from the proceedings of a case related to the alleged torture of a lawyer.
