The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has embarked on a significant initiative to rejuvenate the city’s cultural landscape, hosting a vibrant Qawwali Night at the historic Frere Hall to mark the 770th anniversary of the celebrated poet and musician, Hazrat Ameer Khusro.
The soulful program, held on Sunday evening, is part of a broader directive to restore Karachi”s rich cultural and historical heritage. The event drew a large number of citizens, literary enthusiasts, and culture lovers, filling the iconic heritage site with an atmosphere of reverence and delight.
Attendees were treated to a mesmerizing performance by the renowned Abu Fareed Qawwal Group. Their powerful renditions of Ameer Khusro’s kalaam echoed through the lawns of the historic venue, captivating the audience and transporting listeners into the mystical world of Sufi music.
Speaking at the gathering, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab affirmed his commitment to promoting art, literature, and culture across the metropolis. He stated that the revival of such activities is essential to restoring Karachi’s identity as a city of lights and inclusivity.
‘Karachi has always been a cradle of culture and harmony. Through such events, we aim to reconnect our citizens-especially the younger generation-with our historical and artistic roots,’ the Mayor remarked.
