Aurangzeb Khichi Launches Tree Plantation Drive

Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Division Aurangzeb Khan Khichi inaugurated a tree plantation campaign at Lok Virsa on Thursday, planting a sapling and calling for collective action to confront climate change and protect natural heritage.

Accompanied by Parliamentary Secretary for National Heritage and Culture Ms. Farah Naz Akbar, Member of the National Assembly Nuzhat Sadiq and Secretary IPC Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani, the minister formally opened the greening initiative at the cultural complex.

Workers from Lok Virsa joined the drive and helped establish new trees across the institute’s grounds. A large contingent of female students also took part, actively engaging in the afforestation activities hosted at the venue.

Speaking at the ceremony, Khichi underlined the necessity of shared responsibility in addressing environmental threats and ensuring a sustainable legacy for future generations. He said cultural and heritage institutions should act not only as guardians of tradition but also as promoters of ecological stewardship.

The minister praised the involvement of both staff and students, describing their participation as indicative of a broader commitment to preserving cultural assets while advancing environmental resilience.

The event underscores a growing emphasis within federal ministries on linking heritage conservation with climate action, as officials seek to broaden public engagement in sustainability projects.
