PM calls for enhanced efforts to address climate change

Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, appreciating the work being done by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), has called for enhanced efforts to address climate change, biodiversity loss, and ecosystem degradation more effectively. He said this while meeting Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme, Ms Inger Andersen, who called on him here in Islamabad on Tuesday. ECP declares Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain as PML-Q President

Islamabad: Announcing its verdict reserved earlier on Aug 18, 2022, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday declared Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain as President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q). The ECP declared the dismissal of Chaudhry Shujaat by the PML-Q’s Central Working Committee (CWC), being contradictory to the party’s constitution. The ECP also declared the election schedule issued by the PML-Q as null and void. Former Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat had filed a petition in the ECP, when in July 2022, the PML-Q’s CWC decided to release him from the duties of party President, and citing health concerns. Cold and dry weather likely in most parts of country

Karachi: Met office informed on Tuesday that that during the next 24 hour, cold and dry weather is expected in most parts while, very cold in north Balochistan and upper parts of the country. Isolated light rain/light snowfall over the hills is expected in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit Baltistan during the period. Fog is likely to occur in plain areas of Punjab during night and morning hours. Two alleged dacoits killed in Kandhkot encounter

Karachi: Two alleged dacoits were killed in an exchange of fire with police on Indus Highway near Ghouspur in Kandhkot on Monday. According to police, the dacoits were snatching a motorcycle from a citizen on Indus Highway near Ghouspur. Seeing this, the police opened fire at them. As a result, both the dacoits were killed. The slain alleged criminals were identifies ad Asadullah Sheikh and Mir Sheikh. The police have started a probe into the incident.

Four booked in Tanda Dam boat sinking case

Kohat: The First Information Report (FIR) of boat tragedy at Kohat’s Tanda Dam has been registered in which the boat owner and three officials of the irrigation department have been nominated, police said on Monday. According to the FIR, the accident occurred due to overloading of the boat following which 10 children died on Sunday. The boat, carrying 25-30 passengers, including madrassa students, as well as the boatman, capsized in Tanda Dam. The authorities managed to rescue six of the students, who were being treated at DHQ Hospital Kohat. The incident has created a mourning atmosphere in the houses of victims.
