Authorities Announce Sweeping Security Measures for Ramadan Across the Capital

Authorities in the federal capital today finalised a comprehensive security strategy for the holy month of Ramadan, with plans for the deployment of additional police personnel and strict checks at all entry and exit points of the city.

The decision was made during an Operational Commanders’ Conference at Safe City Islamabad, chaired by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi. The meeting, attended by all DIGs, AIGs, SSPs, and other senior police officers, included a detailed review of the prevailing law and order situation.

The IGP directed all officers to bolster security measures at masjids, imambargahs, commercial centres, Ramadan bazaars, and other significant public places. Specific orders were issued to implement special protective arrangements for places of worship during the holy month.

According to the IGP, the finalised plan is “foolproof,” with extra police personnel to be stationed during Sehri, Iftar, and Taraweeh prayer timings to ensure public safety.

Security around important installations and markets will be further tightened, complemented by continuous, effective monitoring across the city via the Safe City camera network. Active police patrol units have been tasked with maintaining effective patrolling throughout the capital.

A special traffic management plan was also ordered by the IGP to handle congestion during Sehri and Iftar hours. This includes deploying additional traffic personnel on major highways and around religious sites to maintain a smooth flow of vehicles.

Senior police officials have been instructed to remain present in the field throughout Ramadan to supervise security duties directly, guide citizens, and oversee traffic management.

Concluding the conference, the IGP reaffirmed that the foremost responsibility of the police is to protect the lives and property of citizens and maintain a peaceful environment, stating that all officers will utilise their professional capabilities to meet this objective.
