The government of Azad Kashmir has dismissed a police officer from his position following a complaint of alleged harassment filed by a British woman of Kashmiri descent.
According to a statement from Kashmir News, a woman visiting from the UK lodged a complaint against Imran Gujar, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Thothal Mirpur police station. She alleged that when she went to report an illegal occupation of her home, the SHO, under the influence of alcohol, subjected her to physical harassment.
Following protests in support of the woman and intervention by the British embassy and government, Imran Gujar was first arrested in Palandri and has now been dismissed from his job through a notification.
Additionally, the woman’s home, which had been illegally occupied by a group, has been vacated and returned to her possession.
