Balochistan Braces for Intense Heat, Dust Storms

The Pakistan Meteorological Department’s Regional Centre in Quetta on Friday forecast predominantly hot and dry weather across most parts of Balochistan over the next two days, with very high temperatures expected to persist in several districts and strong winds likely to trigger dust and sandstorms.

The department said a seasonal low-pressure system remained over Balochistan, while a continental air mass covered the province’s western regions. Moist currents from the Arabian Sea were also affecting southern areas, shaping the prevailing weather conditions.

For the next 24 hours, the Met Office said very hot weather was expected in Nokkundi, Washuk, Panjgur, Kech, Dalbandin, Kharan, Noshki, Sibbi, Dera Bugti, Naseerabad, Sohbatpur, Jhal Magsi and Usta Muhammad. Partly cloudy to cloudy conditions were likely in Lasbela, Awaran, Khuzdar, Musakhel, Barkhan and along the coastal belt.

The forecast also warned of strong gusty winds accompanied by dust and sandstorms during the afternoon and evening in Chagai, Washuk, Kharan, Noshki, Panjgur, Kech, Quetta, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah and coastal areas over the next 24 hours.

Looking ahead to the next 48 hours, the weather pattern is expected to remain largely unchanged, with hot and dry conditions prevailing across most districts. Gusty winds carrying dust and sand are forecast to affect Chagai, Washuk, Kharan, Noshki, Panjgur, Kech, Quetta, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Surab, Kalat, Khuzdar, Awaran, Lasbela, Jiwani, Gwadar, Pasni and Ormara during the afternoon and evening.

No rainfall was recorded across the province during the past 24 hours, the department said. Panjgur and Usta Muhammad each recorded 42.5°C, while Turbat reached 41.5°C. Quetta recorded a maximum temperature of 38.5°C.
