Balochistan to declare Covid-19 victims doctors, employees ‘martyrs’

Quetta: Government of Balochistan decided to include those doctors, medical staff and government employees in the category of “Martyrs” and give “Martyrs Package” to the families of those who die during services.

This decision, inter alia, was made in a high-level meeting held at Chief Minster’s Secretariat with Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan in the chair.

The meeting was attended by Provincial Ministers Zamrak Khan Achakzai. Mir Zia Ullah Langove, Advisor to Chief Minister for Labour and Manpower Mir Muhammad Khan Lehri, Chief Secretary Balochistan Captain (retd) Fazeel Asghar, Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Home and Tribal Affairs Department, Secretaries of concerned Departments, Additional Inspector General of Police, Balochistan, Abdul Razzaq Cheema and others.

The meeting decided to grant pecuniary assistance to doctors, paramedics, Laboratory Technicians, security personnel and other staff of Sheikh Zaid Hospital and Fatima Jinnah Chest and General Hospital Quetta.

Decision for payment of one to three month’s additional basic pay to doctors, paramedical and security personnel in accordance with the nature of their duties was made in the meeting. Payment of additional pay will come into force from 1st March,2020. Detail of doctors and other staff regarding their nature of duties will be provided to Finance Department by Health Department.

The meeting expressed concern over the spread of novel corona virus due to non-cooperation of people with regard to following precautionary measures against covid-19. It was informed that no ban has been imposed for providing medical facilities in OPDs of private hospitals and registered clinics, nevertheless, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are to be followed. Instructions were given to Health Department for taking further necessary action to commence Smart OPDs in government-run hospitals.
