Balochistan is set to launch a comprehensive health insurance policy for its government employees, providing treatment coverage of up to one million rupees, with a formal inauguration scheduled for March 7, 2026.
The decision was highlighted during a progress review meeting on Wednesday, chaired by Balochistan Chief Minister, Mir Sarfraz Bugti. He described the initiative as a significant gift from the provincial government to its workforce.
Chief Minister Bugti stated that the scheme aims to furnish the best healthcare facilities for all public sector workers. He emphasised that under the new policy, every provincial employee will have access to medical care in the country”s top hospitals, ensuring the provision of timely treatment.
The policy is designed to be inclusive, covering staff from Grade 1 to 15 and above. Mr Bugti remarked that this initiative is expected to substantially reduce the overall pressure on the province”s existing health system.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed the relevant authorities to finalise all necessary arrangements for the policy”s launch. He also instructed officials to expedite all matters concerning the restoration and enhancement of Sandeman Provincial Hospital Quetta and Bolan Medical Complex Hospital Quetta.
Mr Bugti commended the efforts of the Health Department and Finance Department officials for formulating what he termed an “excellent policy.”
The Chief Minister was also briefed by officials on the implementation status of the proposed health insurance programme.
The high-level meeting was attended by key provincial figures, including Chief Secretary Balochistan, Shakeel Qadir Khan; Secretary Finance, Lal Jan Jaffar; and Secretary Health, Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Panezai, among other senior officials.
