Bilawal to inaugurate Shahrah-e-Bhutto Project on May 22

Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will formally inaugurate Shahrah-e-Bhutto project on Friday, May 22, at 4:00 PM under the banner of PPP’s public outreach initiative.

This was informed by Spokesperson for the Karachi Mayor and PPP Leader in Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Karamullah Waqasi. He termed the Shahrah-e-Bhutto project a historic, people-friendly and revolutionary initiative of the Sindh government, stating that the mega infrastructure project would bring a major transformation to Karachi’s traffic system and significantly reduce travel time for citizens from hours to just minutes.

He said the project was not merely a roadway but a landmark development initiative that would strengthen Karachi’s economic, commercial and urban growth while providing modern transportation facilities and improved connectivity to the residents of the city.

Waqasi stated that work was currently progressing rapidly on four major signal-free corridors in Karachi, while development and rehabilitation work on 139 new roads was also underway. In addition, construction, expansion and upgradation work on 26 mega roads across different districts of the city was continuing at full pace to ensure safe, smooth and efficient transportation facilities for the public.

He further said that under the special directives of Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, extensive work was being carried out across the city for the rehabilitation and beautification of major roads, internal streets and footpaths. Projects for the restoration and beautification of footpaths in several areas, including Qayyumabad Chowrangi, have already been launched to provide citizens with a cleaner, safer and more organized urban environment.

The spokesperson said that the ongoing development initiatives clearly reflect the Sindh government’s commitment to transforming Karachi’s infrastructure according to international standards. He added that every passing day was taking Karachi closer to progress, modernization and a better civic system, while the pace of development work continues to accelerate.

Waqasi also highlighted that comprehensive planning for the future of the city was being carried out under the Greater Karachi Regional Plan 2047. He said the long-term vision aimed to transform Karachi into a modern, sustainable, organized and globally competitive metropolitan city.

He informed that a public exhibition and open house event was also organized at Khaliq Dina Hall, where international consultants delivered detailed briefings regarding urban development, transportation systems, housing facilities, environmental improvements and infrastructure planning for Karachi’s future.

According to Waqasi, large-scale development projects were underway in all districts of Karachi, including Surjani Town, Malir, South, Central, East and West districts. These projects included road rehabilitation, improvement of drainage systems, urban infrastructure upgradation and enhancement of civic facilities for residents, he added.

Waqasi stated that the Shahrah-e-Bhutto project was a clear reflection of the Sindh government’s commitment to public service, modern urban development and the betterment of Karachi. He appealed to the citizens of Karachi to participate enthusiastically in the inauguration ceremony and become part of the city’s historic journey toward development and prosperity.
