Provincial Information Secretary of Pakistan Muslim League (Q) Muhammad Sadiq Shaikh has said that despite billions of rupees in funds for Karachi city, the death of three-year-old Ibrahim is a tragedy for which no one is accepting responsibility. Instead of redressal, statements are being made. Sadiq Shaikh, citing extreme insensitivity on the part of government officials, said that they allegedly demanded money from the child’s grieving parents to buy diesel for the recovery machinery.
In a statement today, Shaikh highlighted the growing public anger, stating that despite billions of rupees allocated for the city, no one is taking responsibility for the incident, and officials are merely issuing statements instead of providing concrete assistance.
The PML-Q official questioned how the deep sorrow of the child’s parents could be alleviated, emphasizing the growing public unrest surrounding the tragedy.
He revealed that the child’s body was eventually discovered by a scavenger named Tanveer. Praising his “spirit of service,” Shaikh demanded that Tanveer be immediately awarded a government job and called for decisive action against the negligent government officials.
Shaikh urged an end to the “politics of self-interest” and proposed a solution for the proper management of Karachi’s resources.
He called for the formation of an inter-party committee, comprising “sincere and honest individuals” who feel the city’s pain, to oversee the proper utilization of municipal funds.
According to Shaikh, such a body would play a practical role in the city’s development, with the ultimate goal of restoring Karachi’s status as a developed metropolitan area and the “city of lights.”
