Blind Diplomat’s Vision: Eril Hussain Calls for Accessible Buses in Meeting with CM

Fresh off his remarkable success in the civil service examination, 27-year-old visually impaired diplomat-in-training Eril Hussain has urged the Sindh government to enhance public transport for people with disabilities, making a direct plea to the chief minister for a voice-assisted system on public buses.

According to a statement from CM House today, during a meeting at CM House, Mr. Hussain, who qualified for the prestigious Foreign Service of Pakistan, highlighted his personal use of the People’s Bus Service and requested an upgrade to help visually impaired individuals identify arriving buses.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah warmly congratulated the young officer on his achievement, embracing him and remarking that his success proves no physical limitation can obstruct determination. ‘You have made us all proud,’ the Chief Minister stated.

Mr. Hussain, who passed the Central Superior Services (CSS) examination in the 2024 batch, was allocated to the Foreign Service, which was his first preference. He shared his educational journey, which began at a school for special children and continued through St. Patrick’s High School and the University of Karachi.

He also explained that accommodations, such as being granted extra time during the CSS examinations, were instrumental in allowing him to perform under fair conditions and demonstrate his capabilities.

The Chief Minister expressed his delight at the growing accomplishments of persons with disabilities in the province. “Our efforts to support differently-abled individuals are yielding results,’ he commented, adding his intention to collaborate with organizations like Inclusive City to promote higher education and empowerment for special children.

Attending the meeting were Principal Secretary to CM Agha Wasif, Secretary DEPD Taha Farooqui, and representatives from NOWPDP, including Amin Hashwani, Mustafa Ghazi, and Iqra Nagi.

CM Murad Ali Shah concluded by reaffirming the Sindh government’s commitment to fostering an inclusive society. He issued a call for civil society and private institutions across Pakistan to join hands in the development and empowerment of all persons with disabilities.
