By-elections: Imran Khan taking lead in NA-31

Peshawar: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan is taking lead in NA-31 Peshawar.

According to unofficial results on Sunday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan is taking lead in Peshawar NA 31 followed by ANP leader Ghulam Ahmad Bilour and JI candidate Haji Aslam. As the vote count continues, the unofficial results of 20 polling stations show Imran Khan got 2,484 votes, Bilour bagged 1,520 votes and Haji Aslam 223.

By-elections were held in eight constituencies of the National Assembly and three of the Punjab Assembly. The constituencies of the National Assembly fell vacant after the acceptance of the resignations of PTI members of the Assembly by the Speaker of the National Assembly. The PTI chairman is contesting a record seven National Assembly seats.

Voting began in the by-elections Sunday morning at 8:00 am and concluded at 5:00 pm without any break. The ECP said the people present inside the polling stations after 5:00 pm will be allowed to cast their votes. By-elections for 11 National Assembly and three Punjab Assembly seats were held was held. The voting was generally peacefully but sporadic incidents of clashes, mismanagement and a few arrests were reported from different constituencies.
