Traffic authorities issued over 13,400 challan tickets and registered 139 First Information Reports (FIRs) for serious violations during a three-day rigorous campaign to curb traffic law violations and enhance road safety across the district.
According to a report issued today, the crackdown, initiated on the special instructions of DIG Traffic Punjab, Waqas Nazir, aims to ensure strict adherence to traffic laws and prevent road accidents. Chief Traffic Officer Rawalpindi, Farhan Aslam, is personally monitoring field activities to ensure effective action.
According to the details of the challans, more than 4,500 motorcyclists were fined for not wearing helmets. Additionally, over 1,884 drivers were ticketed for one-way violations, 1,164 vehicles for overloading, and 928 for excessive smoke emissions. A further 4,924 challans were issued for other various traffic violations.
Chief Traffic Officer Farhan Aslam stated that the primary objective of this initiative is to protect human lives through the strict enforcement of traffic laws. He confirmed that a “zero-tolerance” policy has been implemented, with 24/7 surveillance being conducted using drone technology and the Safe City camera network to monitor traffic and identify violators.
