Capital Police Launch ‘Uraan’ Driving School to Boost Female Mobility and Independence

In a significant move aimed at enhancing female empowerment and secure mobility, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has launched the ‘Uraan Scooty and Motor Riding School,’ a dedicated training facility for women.

According to a police report today, the initiative was formally inaugurated by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, during a ceremony held at the Islamabad Traffic Police Headquarters in Faizabad. The event was attended by senior police officials, female officers, and members of the public.

Speaking at the launch, IGP Rizvi described the “Uraan” programme as a landmark initiative, stating it symbolises confidence and independence for women. He noted that participants would receive structured instruction in driving cars, motorcycles, and scooties.

The IGP highlighted that the project is a milestone toward ensuring safe and autonomous travel for women, calling it a practical effort to help them achieve their aspirations for greater freedom of movement. He emphasised that the school represents an important advancement for secure and independent female travel.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) of Islamabad, Capt. (retd) Hamzah Humayun, provided details on the facility”s operational standards. He confirmed that the ‘ITP Uraan Scooty and Motor Riding School’ features comprehensive training arrangements that adhere to international benchmarks, including a modern driving track and specialised areas for practical exercises.

He further added that instruction at the new riding school will be provided exclusively by female instructors. Upon successful completion of the driving course, graduates will be issued formal certificates to recognise their qualification.

The CTO concluded that the school is a special facility designed to serve female students and working women from the twin cities, which will ultimately enhance their professional skills and personal autonomy.
