The long-standing practice of transferring accused persons related to the federal capital’s cases to jails in other districts is set to conclude, as top officials have directed the swift operationalization of the new Islamabad Model Jail. This significant development follows the appointment of the facility”s first Senior Superintendent of Prisons.
In a key meeting today, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, and the newly appointed Senior Superintendent of Federal Prisons, Ali Akbar, issued joint directives to expedite the process of making the correctional facility fully functional.
The appointment of Ali Akbar as the inaugural Senior Superintendent of what is being termed the ‘Federal Prison of Pakistan’ marks a crucial step in the project. This progress stems from special directives issued by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to advance the establishment of the model jail.
During their discussion, both officials underscored a rehabilitative philosophy for the institution”s future, emphasizing that duties must be performed while keeping in mind the principle: ‘A saint has a past, and a sinner has a future.’
Upon becoming operational, the Islamabad Model Jail will exclusively house all detainees and prisoners connected to cases within the federal capital”s jurisdiction, thereby centralizing the city”s inmate population and eliminating the need for transfers.
