Demo held as no wheat center could be established in Sindh

LARKANA:The members of Sindh Abadgar Board (SAB) held a protest demonstration in front of local press club here on Monday against non-establishment of wheat procurement centers in Sindh.

SAB Larkana President Irfan Jatoi, Nazir Memon, Muhammad Siddique, Ali Asghar Brohi and others participated in the demonstration. They complained before media that Sindh government had so far failed to announce any policy about purchasing wheat from the tillers.

They said no wheat procurement centers had yet been established in the entire province due to which traders were busy in looting poor growers and farmers with both hands.

They said wheat was being purchased by the grain merchants at Rs 1050 per 40 kg which was very much below the required rate as the costs of seed, pesticides, POL and fertilizers had gone very high. They alleged that Sindh government and food and agriculture departments were still in deep sleep due to which economic murder of the growers was continuing since previous year.

They said: “If government did not take any foolproof measures quickly this year then it is feared that growers will suffer huge losses during the current year as well. They urged PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to take notice of the issue and save poverty-stricken farmers or else, they warned, they will file a constitutional petition in the Sindh High Court on Wednesday.
