Rains increase cold in Bahawalnagar

Bahawalnagar:Winter rains increased cold in Bahawalnagar, Dunga Bunga and adjoining areas on Monday.

Demand for woollies, firewood, dry fruits, eggs and chicken increased and also so their prices. The poor and low income families suffer a lot due to sudden price hike. The sale of second-hand clothes is also on the rise.

After the rains, low laying areas went inundated with rainwater, as civic agencies once again failed to serve the citizens properly.

Larkana: Rains expose bad governance

LARKANA:Performance of Larkana Municipal Corporation (LMC) and Sepco was exposed when it intermittently rained here since last sunset.

All low lying roads and streets remained inundated with rainwater for which no specific efforts were taken to drain out standing water. Localities such as underpass, Ayoob Colony, Shahbaz Colony, Ali Goharabad, Yar Muhammad Colony, Murad Wahan, Mumtaz Colony, Kausar Mill, Bhains Colony, Nazar Muhalla, Hyderi Muhalla, Baitul Mal Colony and other areas remained under water for which no sanitation staff was deployed to drain out the standing rainwater causing hardships for the commuters.

Likewise, electricity remained off in Larkana, Naundero and other adjoining villages for 24 hours after the rain showing the sheer negligence of local Sepco engineers and their line staff. Despite the fact that 4-core cable is being installed in Ratodero, Naundero and other parts of the district to stop theft but even then line staff is not supplied with required cable and consumers are being asked to procure the same from the market at high cost to get an electricity connection.

In Ratodero cable system has been almost completed but in Naundero cable supply is very short as from one pole to another cable is not available due to which consumers are suffering very badly. The residents have urged the higher authorities to take notice of the highhandedness of the Sepco and provide cable which is their job as consumers will purchase their cable from meter to their residence but poles cannot be left without cable.
