Sadia Kamal elected as senior vice president National Press Club Islamabad

AhmedpurEast:Ms Sadia Kamal hailing from South Punjab was elected as senior vice president National Press Club Islamabad. She is the first female Seraiki speaking journalist who got this distinction.

She has served as news caster in Radio Pakistan and anchor person in Rohi TV channel.

She remained associated with PTV, Institute of educational Technology (IET) of Allama Iqbal Open

University, K2 TV channel and NGO PODA.

Currently she is working with official news agency Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) as anchorperson and reporter. She is resident of AhmedpurEast Bahawalpur district.

Demo against attack on citizen

Tando Adam:Pasban Democratic Party staged a protest demo here on Friday against attack on a citizen, Faisal Abbasi.

Addressing the demo, Pasban Democratic Party Sindh chapter president Sultan Khaskheli said some Waderas belonging to ruling party of Sindh attacked Faisal Abbasi, because he had resisted their bid to illegally occupy lands. He said they would continue to raise voice against land mafia which is now targeting peaceful citizens. He demanded of the higher authorities to arrest the attackers and check increasing activities of powerful land mafia in Tando Adam.

Rs 2.4m exam copies fund lapses; students charged illegal fee

LARKANA:The Government Secondary Teachers Association (GSTA) in a meeting held here on Friday deplored the order allegedly issued by District Education Officer (Secondary), Larkana, under which each student shall be charged Rs 40 before appearing in upcoming annual examinations.

The association’s president Bashir Ahmed Samo and other representatives Abdul Qadir Tunio, Abdul Razak Mangi, Mir Muhammad Kolachi and Qalandar Bux Abro alleged that DEO Akhtar Hussain Korejo had directed staff to charge Rs 40 from each student so that answer copies could be procured and printed for them.

They said: “There are about 170 middle, high and higher secondary schools in Larkana where approximately 29,000 students are enrolled. Last year, the same officer charged Rs 30 from every student for the same purpose despite the fact that they were allocated Rs 2.4 million for examination answer copies, but these funds were not utilized due to their negligence, hence, lapsed for which they should be taken to task.”

They said Rs 1.2 million would be earned this year by collecting Rs 40 from each poor student which would be utilized by these education bosses on their personal lavish living or misappropriated. They further said that when Sindh government had made education free up to XII class then how fee was charged in the name of printing examination answer copies adding this order would not only degrade the government steps but will also undermine the efforts of the rulers to give top priority to most vital education sector.

They demanded of the higher government authorities to ensure that education is free in the province as per their declared policy and no fee should be charged from the students.

Restoration of Bahawalpur province urged

AhmedpurEast:Amir of Bahawalpur Nawab Salahuddin Abbasi has said that the long standing problems of 12.5 million Bahawalpuries would not be resolved till the restoration of former Bahawalpur province.

All political forces of former Bahawalpur province should unite to get their rights which had been deprived by all previous governments, he said while talking to ex-MNA Arif Aziz Sheikh, Tehsil president PML(N) Shehzad Suhail Khakwani, ex-civil judge Yahya Khan Kulachi, PTI leader Nakhdoom Syed Amjad Hussein Bukhari along with a group of Union Councils Chairmen headed by Dr Fayyaz Awan in his office at Sadiq Garh Palace Dera Nawab Sahib.

Abbasi stated that restoration of former Bahawalpur province was launched in 1969,in which scores of the activists including his uncle late prince Mamoonur Rashid Abbasi were sent to jails while some embraced Shahadat during this movement.

He categorically stated that we are not opponent of the creation of South Punjab province but do not include Bahawalpur into it. He supported the demand of the referendum on Bahawalpur province issue and announced to accept its results.

Nawab Abbasi demanded of government to restore Bahawalpur province and create South Punjab province consisting of Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan divisions according to Punjab assembly unanimous resolution.

Nawab Salahuddin Abbasi said that former Bahawalpur state functioned as province from 1951 to 1954, Bahawalpur assembly had elected its own chief minister but after its merger in One Unit this area was neglected.

Rulers set aside Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah promises with his grandfather late Nawab Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Khamis Abbasi who first of all joined hands with Quaid-e-Azam and supported newly created country Pakistan with huge gold and net cash.

UoL wins HEC Intervarsity Men Ski Championship

NALTAR:The 5th All Pakistan HEC Intervarsity Men Ski Championship concluded at PAF Ski Resort Naltar, Friday.

This was the first time that the event has been conducted at Naltar, which was earlier held at PAF Base Kalabagh. 24 students of 08 Universities from all over the country competed in Slalom and Giant Slalom categories in freezing temperatures.

A large number of spectators and Ski lovers witnessed the event, which continued at the picturesque PAF Ski Resort for three days.

The prize distribution ceremony of the championship was held today. Inspector General of Police, Gilgit Baltistan Sana Ullah Abbasi was the chief guest at the occasion.

University of Lahore was adjudged the winner of the championship; while Punjab University won the silver medal. Karakoram University of Gilgit Baltistan stood 3rd in the competition.

Winter Sports Federation of Pakistan under the auspices of PAF is pursuing its goal of flourishing winter sports in the country. Encouraging the youth of Pakistan to participate in this healthy and exciting sport would help in searching new talent for the country and also promote tourism in the area.

Crops: (Frost not good for crops)

Rawalpindi:Farmers have been advised to take necessary steps keeping in view the weather conditions and to protect crops from frost.

A Spokesman for the Punjab Agriculture Department said in a statement that plants should be covered with plastic sheets and slight irrigation should be carried out to save crops from adverse effects of cold weather.

He said that vegetables grown in tunnels can also get affected from the negative impact of cold weather.

He said that at night, the tunnel mouth should be closed so that inside temperature of the tunnel remain suitable for the growth of the vegetables.

Diplomatic: (Nigerian envoy stresses more trade with Pakistan)

Faisalabad:Nigerian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Ashimiyu Adebayo Olaniyi has said that businessmen of Pakistan and Nigeria must collaborate in their relevant fields to exploit the untapped potential.

Addressing the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry members, he said are facing many difficulties in different fields including population, size of economies, purchasing power and GDP etc.

He said in terms of foreign reserves, the two countries have strengthened themselves considerably in the last year.

He said both countries are blessed with oil and gas and minerals resources, he urged Pakistani businessmen to invest in Nigeria and strengthen bilateral trade relations for benefit of people of two countries.
