PITB Invites Applications for Next e-Rozgaar Training Program

Lahore, January 03, 2019 (PPI-OT): Fresh applications for next e-Rozgaar Training Program are invited by Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB). e-Rozgaar is a joint project of the Punjab’s Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and PITB. Applications are invited for technical, non-technical and creative freelance training latest by January 31, 2019, for earning through the internet as a serious profession to empower the young graduates, enabling them to work 24/7 from anywhere. “e-Rozgaar Program” launched in the mid-2017 is active in 25 Centers, trained 5,550 graduates who have so far earned foreign exchange worth US $ 537,000/- equivalent to Rs.75,156,480/- to guide and groom graduates from a variety of backgrounds. The applications are invited for 25 Centers in 20 districts of the Punjab for the new batch.

Vehari – University of education, 9. Faisalabad – Government College Women University (Female Only), 10. Faisalabad – University of Agriculture Faisalabad, 11. Khushab Jauharabad – University of Education, 12. Mianwali – University of Sargodha, 13. Sahiwal – COMSATS University, 14. Jhelum – University of the Punjab, 15. Gujranwala – University of the Punjab, 16. Taxila – University of Engineering and Technology, 17. Wah – COMSATS University, 18. Rawalpindi – University of Gujrat (Female only), 19. Sialkot – Government College Women University, 20. Attock – COMSATS University, 21. Multan – Bahauddin Zakiriya University (Female only), 22. Multan – NFC, 23. Bhakkar – University of Sargodha, 24. Narowal – e-Library Narowal and 25. Khanewal – Government College of Commerce, among these centers four centers are dedicated for females.

The shortlisted candidates will be given three months free of charges training in their selected domain from expert and master trainers at their selected centers. The program has so far received more than 71,000 applications in total for all the past batches.

Murad Raas Indicates Significant changes in Curriculum Digitized Textbooks for Primary Grades 4 and 5 Launched

Lahore, December 27, 2018 (PPI-OT): The launch of “Digitized Textbooks for Primary Grades 4 and 5” developed by Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) including 670 animated videos, 3288 audio minutes, 580 audio voice over minutes, 130 simulations and 260 MCQs is a landmark project, which needs to be made more simplified, accessible to all students and to create awareness in this regard. Dr. Murad Raas Provincial Minister for School Education said while addressing the launch ceremony of e.Learn Project here today.

He said that significant changes were being made in the curriculum and the government was committed to take all measures to facilitate the children by improving the conditions of the public sector schools in the province. It has been observed during the last three months that school education department has never been under the radar of government reforms despite PITB’s important technological reforms, he stated. He added that the PITB’s initiative of digitizing the textbooks was a revolutionary step, which could help the students’ manifolds and to eliminate the tuition culture.

Though Textbooks for grade 6 to 10 have been digitalized since 2 years but lacked awareness, which required marketing on massive scale, he urged. Murad Raas disclosed that a centralized database was being established to gather all information regarding teachers and students’ attendance, curriculum activity, respective monitoring and indicating missing facilities at one place, having common sharing, to be developed within next three months.

PITB’s mapping of schools in the Punjab through ICT interventions identified location, NSB Fund, students’ enrolment and number of teachers, to assess the requirements of the particular schools and to help in rationalizing the need and demand of employees at schools and to regulate their needs, he informed. Earlier, in his welcome address Habibur Rehman Gilani Chairman PITB informed that Human Resource system of all schools including salary etc details was being computerized while software developed by PITB for education and other sectors were providing data to all policy makers with a one click.

The e.Learn’s digitized textbooks were also helpful for those who couldn’t attend schools while creating awareness was a challenge and training to use online resources was being made mandatory, he said. Ghulam Fareed Special Secretary School Education Department underlined the need to design curriculum and the contents for all and to improve the teaching skills through trainings.

Punjab Curriculum Textbooks Board (PCTB) Chairman General (Retired) Muhammad Akram informed that error free books of science subjects including Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics were first digitized in the first phase for grades 6 to 12 while in the second phase 200 humanities books, technology, technical education, general science and business administration would be included. More subjects of agriculture, Veterinary and animal science would bring economic benefits for the country, he said.

Digital traffic accident data base system to improve safety

Lahore, December 18, 2018 (PPI-OT): The launch of Traffic Accident Management Information System (TAMIS) automated by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) during the first 100 days of the present government is Punjab’s historical moment, which will bring long term results by curtailing the accidents, identifying the reasons and to improve the safety measures. Amjad Javed Saleemi Inspector General Punjab Police said while inaugurating the launching ceremony of TAMIS at Police Qurban Lines here today.

While lauding the PITB’s efforts in developing the system, Amjad Saleemi informed that the death ratio in accidents was always higher than the murders, which required a comprehensive and integrated data base for identifiable causes of accidents to reduce the quantum massive loss of life and injuries during accidents. In view the importance of traffic management this digital data collection system would now operate in 36 districts across the Punjab through 360 police posts/ mobile units all over district highways, Punjab highways and motorways approaching the Province, he added.

The IG Punjab further informed that now out district license renewal from any Police Khidmat Centers in all districts of the province has started facilitating the citizens and e-Challan at 90 important points piloted in Lahore was being extended across the Punjab after necessary amendments in the law by the Chief Minister. In addition to the 21 existing driving training schools all districts of the province were being equipped with similar facility, he stated.

Faisal Yousaf Director General IT Operations gave brief overview of the system and said that the automated system would help manifold to know the reasons of the accidents for taking remedial measures while its data was integrated with NADRA, Excise and Police Khidmat Centers to verify the driver, vehicle and other allied information. SSP Traffic Headquarter Khurram Shakoor introduced the event and said that TAMIS was the first ever electronic integrated with google map replacement of the previous error prong manual system, which would indicate the road condition, generate automatic technical report to enable all stakeholders to play their effective role.

Prison Management Information System Rollout in Six Jails across Punjab Soon- Zawar Waraich Minister for Prisons Punjab Briefed

Lahore, December 17, 2018 (PPI-OT): The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB)’s Prison Management Information System (PMIS) team gave a detailed demonstration and presentation to the Punjab’s Minister Prisons Mr. Zawar Hussain Waraich and IG Prisons Mirza Shahid Saleem Baig and briefed that in accordance with the 100 days’ plan after successful running of PMIS in its pilot phase at District Jail, Lahore, PITB will initially rollout the PMIS application at Six different jails across Punjab out of 20. Zawar Waraich Provincial Minister Prisons lauded the PITB efforts in digitalizing Prisons department, which was an integral part of Criminal Judicial System and both were looking forward to make this remarkable project of its own kind as a flagship project of PITB and Punjab Prisons as well.

The application modules like complete prisoner management including remissions, hospital affairs, visitor management, HR management, automated summary of daily duty roaster, bank management, store management, factory affairs would make the performance of provincial jails more transparent and bring in improvements and efficiencies, the Minister added. The IG Prisons Mirza Shahid Saleem Baig said that it was needed to update prison records to strengthen the criminal justice system. The PITB developed the Prison Management Information System (PIMS) for this purpose. It was implemented in Lahore District Jail as a pilot project.

Salient features of PMIS includes comprehensive online database of more than 3,000 inmates which uses an automated fingerprint identification system (AFIS), Planning and execution of reformatory measures, Regulation and management of day-to-day affairs related to courts, Facilitation of the public through fast-track registration of interviews and instant redressal of public grievances, Maintenance of a comprehensive database of prison staff, including their career profiles, salaries, bank accounts and HR-related data, Stock and inventory management, which includes management and automation of the grain godowns, medicine stores and other miscellaneous stores and automation of budgeting, procurement processes and financial transactions.

The meeting was informed that PMIS is integrated with the MIS of Home Department, Punjab Police, Lahore High Court and Anti-Corruption The PIMS has ensured efficient control and management of jail affairs. It requires less manpower and time. It also aids instant and informed decision making and planning. It has significantly facilitated visitors.

Through the PIMS, information of 51,747 prisoners, 14,895 visitors and 136 patients hospitalized in the jail has been gathered at the pilot project. Previously, prison inmate data was recorded on registers. Management and retrieval of these records was quite cumbersome. The data included detailed information about legal histories of inmates housed in various prisons. This included the date of their admission, their fingerprints, their court dates, jail transfer, medical histories, parole and crime details.

Business Portal Registers 125 Businesses in One Day Awareness Campaign

Lahore, November 28, 2018 (PPI-OT): The one-day awareness campaign jointly conducted by the Labour Department of Punjab and the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) at historical Anarkali Bazar attracted a large number of business community and registered as many as 125 individual businesses on Business Portal here today. Shop owners were given registration certificates at the spot while the registration certificates were sent to their registered email.

Earlier, the registration of businesses was time consuming, cumbersome, involving various offices and used to takes days for completion, however, in order to facilitate the business community and to ensure ease for doing the business, PITB developed online business portal, which registers the business (Shops and Establishments) to walk in and register them through online business registration portal (http://register.business.punjab.gov.pk). In hours and eliminates the chances of any corruption or bribe by the respective officials.

One can get registration notifications through SMS and email under this business portal while the business community can now register their businesses 24/7 while being at home or from anywhere to get the required certificates. “The Government of Punjab in collaboration with the World Bank to improve the doing business index took various initiatives for implementation of transparent and effective policies to regulate the processes using Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Apart from various other initiatives, one of the key initiative was to launch a Business Registration Portal (www.business.punjab.gov.pk) It may be recalled that Registration with Labour Department is mandatory under the “Pakistan Shops and Establishment Ordinance, 1969” or “Factories Act, 1934”.

Rs. 100 Billion of e-Stamping Revenue improves Governance through Technology: Finance Minister

Lahore, November 26, 2018 (PPI-OT): The Punjab, in general and Lahore, in particular has brains to make a Silicon Valley in South East Asia as the World evolved from agriculture to industrial and now the shift is from industrial to digitization. The government’s main focus is to invest and bring about change in IT sector. The Minister for Finance Punjab Makhdoom Hashim Jawan Bakht said while addressing an event on achieving Rs.100 Billion revenues through e-Stamping, a joint project of the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and Board of Revenue Punjab here today.

He added that the government would strive hard to achieve the targets of e-procurement and e-payment during the next five years. There was a need to give special attention to IT sector in the phase-2 of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), he urged. He said that It was the start of a new journey and a testament of economic activity undertaken by PITB, a very prestigious institution, which was institutionally driven rather than personality driven. IT intervention was the only way forward to catalyze the environment where youth could be absorbed and accommodated, he added.

The Provincial Minister for Finance further said that revenue collection worth Rs. 100 Billion through e-Stamping system was the historic moment for Government of the Punjab and the best example of utilizing Information Technology for the betterment of the general public as well as improving the Governance. We were determined to provide comfortable environment to the private sector for economic activities as the government was promoting innovative ideas to keep the economy on right track, he stated.

He said that despite of having enormous economic challenges inherited, the present Government was striving actively to achieve maximum growth, low inflationary environment and economic stability in the country. IT interventions were essential and much needed in all sectors and specifically for improving overall efficiency of government machinery, he added. The Finance Minister further said that it was also the vision of the present Government to promote IT sector by utilizing its full potential and attracting best human resource as the implementation of eStamping shows that how much potential there’s once we have streamlined the processes and implemented the IT interventions.

A significant increase in Government revenue has been witnessed as compared to last year through e-Stamping initiative. The Chairman PITB Habib Ur Rehman Gilani said that PITB was a success story among Punjab government departments and the use of Information Technology as an enabler was a key for better management and governance. Information Technology was a cross cutting and equally important for all sectors of economy vertically and horizontally while the present government was paying special attention on IT sector, he added.

The Chairman PITB presented a symbolic cheque of Rs. 100 billion to the Finance Minister. Sajid Latif, Director General PITB informed that PITB’s flagship project e-Stamping has achieved remarkable results. The operation launched in 2016 has fetched Rs.100 billion proceeds in 19 months. A number of 5,364,934 people utilized the e-Stamping website while 5,028,452 vouchers were paid and a number of 3,730,198 e-Stamp papers were issued, in which the number of judicial stamp issued is 320,322 and non-judicial stamp issued is 3,409,876.

The e-Stamping system is online and any person desirous of purchasing high value non-judicial or judicial stamp can access the system by a simple internet connection. In Punjab, PITB has established a partnership with various line departments, helping them conceive, implement and institutionalize IT-driven reforms. In many instances, these projects have entailed a significant re-working of old processes, requiring patience and resolve at all levels of government to ultimately achieve successful implementation.

PSL 4 iconic draft by ITU’s one-stop software tomorrow at Islamabad

Lahore, November 19, 2018 (PPI-OT): The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 4 iconic draft is taking place tomorrow on Tuesday, November 20 at Islamabad. Similar to last year, Information Technology University (ITU) the Punjab’s Sports Analytics team of Intelligent Machines Lab is the official partner of it. ITU has designed a one-stop software to conduct the entire draft process including players picks, announcements, retentions, time window, etc. All six teams have their unique login through which they can not only pick players but also search players and stats.

Talha Rehmani, Project Lead and Director IML, ITU said: “PSL holds a unique place in every Pakistani hearts and it’s a privilege to partner with PSL and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) again to conduct this draft through ITU’s state-of-the-art software. To bring the best digital experience to people key changes to software design and architecture have been made.

This was not possible with the critical feedback and help of PSL team.” Earlier this year, ITU signed a five year MoU with PCB to digitize the cricket experience and bring the best cricket Insights to PCB, from both domestic and international cricket. Project Mentor cricket Legends Inzamam-ul-Haq and Mushtaq Ahmed played a key role in the development of “Insights”. This software was piloted in PSL 3 and all matches were covered by it.
