Mangla Dam saved Punjab from devastating floods during high flow season

Lahore, October 26, 2020 (PPI-OT):Mangla Dam saved Punjab from devastating floods during recent high flow season. Mangla Dam yet again proved to be instrumental in mitigating floods this summer, especially in the months of August and September, as it successfully absorbed River Jhelum flood peaks as high as 415,000 cubic feet per second (cusecs) on August 28, and released only 100,000 cusecs of water downstream.

This controlled water outflow from Mangla Dam averted coinciding of 415,000 cusecs flood peak in River Jhelum with 300,000 cusecs flood peak in River Chenab, mitigating flood damages. Had the peak flood of River Jhelum not absorbed in Mangla Dam, there would have been large scale destruction downstream of Mangla Dam and Trimmu Head Works.

Mangla Dam not only mitigated floods but also helped ensuring ample availability of water as much as 7.35 million acre feet (MAF) to meet water requirements of Rabi season. Mangla Dam has been phenomenally contributing towards economic development and social uplift of Pakistan for the last 53 years by providing water for irrigated agriculture, mitigating floods and generating low-cost hydel electricity. Since its commissioning in 1967, Mangla Dam has made more than 263 MAF of storage releases for irrigation purpose and contributed about 242 billion units of low-cost electricity to the National Grid.

It is pertinent to mention that Mangla Dam is the largest water reservoir of the country with live storage capacity of 7.35 MAF after completion of Mangla Dam Raising Project in 2011. The maximum conservation level of the Mangla reservoir stands at 1242 feet above mean sea level.

Jammu and Kashmir Mass Movement Chairperson Farida Bahanji in a statement issued in Srinagar said that October 27, 1947 was the darkest day in the history of Kashmir. “On this day, the Indian Army entered Jammu and Kashmir in negation of all international norms and ethics,” she added.

Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference Chairman Shabbir Ahmed Dar and Tehreek-e-Istiqlal Chairman Ghulam Nabi Waseem in a statement in Srinagar said that 27 October 1947 changed the geo-political history of subcontinent and trampled the Delhi agreement of Indian independence Act for the creation of Pakistan and India.

“This was the day when Indian boots landed in Kashmir and the dark days started for the Kashmiris. The Delhi agreement was very clear that Muslim majority states will be part of Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir being a Muslim majority should have been a part of Pakistan but the expansionist designs of Indian leaders violated all the norms by sending their troops and forcibly occupying Jammu Kashmir,” the statement added.

APHC leader and Jammu and Kashmir Social Peace Forum Chairman, Devinder Singh Behl in a statement in Jammu said that Indian Army along with RSS goons entered Jammu and Kashmir on October 27, 1947 and unleashed bloodshed in the territory. He said that people of IIOJK would continue their struggle till Kashmir is settled as per UN resolutions.

The Chairman Tehreek-e-Istiqamat, Ghulam Nabi War in a statement said that India was hell bent upon committing genocide of the Kashmiri Muslims. Hurriyat leader Jahangeer Ghani Butt in a statement thanked Pakistan for observing 27 October as Black Day to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir.

Jammu and Kashmir Employees Movement (JKEM), a constituent of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, in a statement issued in Srinagar said, right from the day one, India has been treating Kashmir as its colony and Kashmiri people as its slaves who have no human rights. The statement said the first Indian Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, went to the United Nations and pledged to hold a referendum and provide people of Kashmir a chance to determine their future by themselves. However, Indian leaders, later, backtracked from their commitment. “Indian forces on daily basis are killing Kashmiris and destroying residential houses and the international community has become a mute spectator,” JKEM deplored.

United Jihad Council Chairman, Syed Salahuddin addressing a meeting in Muzaffarabad said that Modi regime under a well-hatched conspiracy was bringing extremist Hindus from India and settling them in IIOJK to change the Muslim majority character of the territory. He deplored the silence of the international community over India’s anti-humanity actions in the occupied territory.

Chairman J and K People’s Freedom League and ex-convener of All Parties Hurriyat Conference AJK chapter, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani in a statement in Islamabad urged all the big and small states and institutions of the world to address the plight of the Kashmiris in the Indian illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that all curbs and restrictions on basic freedoms-press, platform, be lifted and the human rights groups be granted free access to Kashmir to assess the true picture of the besieged region. “A peaceful and durable solution of the problem in line with the UNSC resolutions and wishes of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, as its basic and aggrieved party be found without further delay,” he said.

The vice chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples League, Syed Aijaz Rehmani in a statement in Islamabad said that after abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A by Modi fascist Indian government, India had lost its whatsoever claim on Jammu and Kashmir. The statement added that the Kashmiris reject Indian illegal occupation of their motherland.

Vice chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Young Mens League, Zahid Ashraf in a statement released in Islamabad, today, denounced the continued illegal Indian occupation of Jammu and Kashmir and said the fateful day of Oct. 27, 1947 was the blackest day in the history of Kashmir. He said that 73 years of occupation and Indian rule had resulted in endless persecution and repression of the enslaved people of Kashmir.

The Chairman of Kashmir Institute of International Relations and vice Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir National Front, Altaf Wani, in a statement said that the invasion of Jammu and Kashmir by India on October 27 is the most dreadful incident of India’s colonial history that threw the region into throes of instability and perpetual violence. He said, right on this day in 1947 the leaders of the so-called secular India hurriedly rushed its troops to Srinagar in the dark of night trampling under the jackboots the Kashmiris’ fundamental political and democratic rights for which the Indians had themselves fought for years together under and against the British rule.

Landing of Indian troops in IIOJK on Oct 27 multiplies Kashmiris’ woes

Srinagar, October 26, 2020 (PPI-OT):October 27 is the day when India landed its forces in the present-day illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir against the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and in total disregard to the Partition Plan of the Sub Continent and international norms and ethics.

An analytical report released by Kashmir Media Service in connection with the October 27, which is observed by the Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and wherever they live in the world as Black Day and the day of mourning because sufferings of the Kashmir’s inhabitants multiplied with the landing of Indian troops in the territory on this day in 1947.

The report maintained that the Kashmiris who deem 27th of Oct as the darkest chapter in the IIOJK history also observe it as Black Day to convey to India that they reject its illegal occupation of their homeland.

Besides, the aim of observing October 27 as black day is to remind the world of its commitments viz-a-viz Kashmir as UN resolutions uphold the Kashmiris’ right to decide their future through plebiscite. However, the report deplored that for over 7 decades now, India has been flouting UN resolutions by continuing with its illegal occupation over IIOJK. “The use of coercion and brutal suppression as means by India to crush the will of Kashmiris warrants the intervention by the United Nations to resolve the Kashmir dispute and stop bloodshed in the territory,” the report stressed.

Like Pakistan, the world community should also stand by the valiant people of Kashmir in realization of their right to self-determination as acknowledged by the United Nations Security Council. Pakistani nation observes Oct 27 as black day to express solidarity with their Kashmiri brethren and its unflinching support to the just cause of Kashmiris has been morale booster for them, the report concluded.

India destabilized entire region by landing troops in IIOJK: TWI

Srinagar, October 26, 2020 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Tehreek-e-Wahdat-e-Islami, a constituent of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, has said that India destabilized the entire region on October 27, 1947 by illegally occupying the Muslim-majority Jammu and Kashmir.

A Tehreek-e-Wahdat-e-Islami spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said that New Delhi not only stifled the aspirations of Kashmiris but also paved the way for a permanent confrontation with Pakistan by illegally landing its troops in Jammu and Kashmir on October 27, 1947.

He said that as a result of the maneuvers of Congress leaders like Pandit Nehru and Sardar Patel under the leadership of Gandhi, a large number of Indian troops landed at Srinagar airport on October 27 ushering in an era of subjugation and suppression in Kashmir.

“The last 73 years of oppressive Indian occupation of Jammu and Kashmir is a painful chapter for the Kashmiris,” he said and added that by observing October 27 as a black day, every year, the Kashmiris send a clear message to India that they do not recognize its illegitimate occupation over Jammu and Kashmir and will continue the mission of their millions of martyrs till its logical end.

Police book Deepika who represented Kathua gang-rape victim

Srinagar, October 26, 2020 (PPI-OT):In Indian Illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, renowned lawyer Deepika Singh Rajawat, who represented 8-year-old Kathua gang-rape victim, Asifa Bano in 2018, was booked by Indian police on the pretext of hurting religious sentiments of a community in one of her tweets.

A police officer confirmed the registration of the FIR in the matter, saying that this has been done following complaints from workers of Hindu extremist organization Bajrang Dal. The 8-year-old girl, Asifa Bano was abducted, gang-raped and killed by Indian police officer, the village head and the caretaker of the temple Sanji Ram, in Rasana, Kathua, in January 2018

The Indian Express reported that Rajawat has been booked under provisions of Sections 295A and 505 (b) (2) of the Indian Penal Code. On Tuesday, Rajawat had tweeted a cartoon making a point about women’s safety featuring Goddess Durga, which had sparked outrage online.

The offences levelled in the FIR are non-bailable. The police said they are waiting for a report by the Cyber Cell about the origin of the tweet, among other things, before initiating action against the lawyer. Earlier, Bajrang Dal activists led by Rakesh Bajrangi had held a demonstration outside Rajawat’s residence in Jammu and demanded action in the matter.

Rajawat dismissed the FIR as “a fractured piece which will not survive in the court”, adding that it was registered by way of “sheer abuse of law and under pressure from BJP and other saffron organisations”. Pointing out that her tweet meant to send a message about women’s safety, she said that in the FIR, she has been charged with offences which she did not commit.
