Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, ordered a citywide crackdown on illegal constructions and encroachments, while also directing preparations for Muharram and the monsoon season. A highlevel meeting at CDA Headquarters on Wednesday brought together CDA board members, the Deputy Commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioner, CDA Director Generals, the Chief Officer of Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI), and other key officials to discuss the coordinated efforts.
Randhawa stressed proactive measures to maintain smooth public services during Muharram and the monsoon. Assistant Commissioners were tasked with addressing illegal structures, road lighting issues, drainage blockages, water accumulation in lowlying zones, and inadequate road conditions.
The installation of CCTV cameras at key underpasses and critical areas, integrated with the Safe City project, was also ordered for enhanced surveillance. Swift coordination between district officers and CDA formations was emphasized to ensure quick resolution of public concerns. Randhawa warned that “practical steps” were mandatory and negligence would not be tolerated.
The Chairman instructed development of a comprehensive strategy to tackle encroachments, rehabilitate roadways, and enhance parks and sanitation services. Collaboration between field units, CDA departments, and stakeholders such as traders, investors, and civil society was urged for capital improvement.
Reiterating a “zero tolerance” policy on corruption, Randhawa pressed for transparency and public visibility from CDA, MCI, DMA, and Assistant Commissioners.
For Muharram, comprehensive security measures, full streetlight restoration along procession routes, and efficient traffic control were mandated. Cleaning of drains and waterways was deemed critical to prevent flooding and ensure uninterrupted transportation and essential services during the monsoon. The meeting ended with a commitment to interdepartmental cooperation to address civic issues and maintain high service standards.
