CERN Experts Review Pakistan’s Nuclear Research Progress

A delegation of high-ranking officials from the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) recently concluded a five-day visit to Pakistan, assessing the nation’s advancements in nuclear science and technology as an Associate Member. The team of five leading specialists from CERN, which is based in Geneva, engaged with the Chairman of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) and inspected several scientific establishments across the country.

The CERN representatives visited key research facilities, including the National Centre for Physics (NCP), Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology (PINSTECH), Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Oncology (INMOL), and the National Institute for Laser and Optronics (NILOP). Their objective was to evaluate Pakistan’s progress in scientific and technological domains.

CERN, renowned as the world’s premier particle physics and nuclear research laboratory, operates on the principle of ‘Science for Peace.’ With 25 Member States and nine Associate Members, including Pakistan, it has evolved into a global hub for scientific achievement.

Pakistan attained Associate Membership status in CERN on July 31, 2015, and has actively participated in CERN’s initiatives since then. The PAEC spearheads Pakistan’s collaborative efforts with CERN. This partnership has yielded substantial advantages for Pakistan, including contributions to groundbreaking scientific discoveries, technological progress, and the development of future scientists and engineers.
