Cesarean operations stopped at Naundero hospital

NAUNDERO:Cesarean Section operation has been stopped at the 100-bedded Government Hospital Naundero since last day because of the fact that the only Woman Medical Officer who was carrying out the operation has been detailed for 11-day training from 3rd to 11th June by the Integrated Health Services (IHS) without provision of her substitute and without the consent or verbal information of the Medical Superintendent (MS).

IHS is managing the affairs of this Hospital under Public Private Partnership but has failed to deliver as per the expectations of the needy poverty-stricken people as complaints keep on coming against their mismanagement and interference in the internal affairs of the hospital. Worst affected are those women of nearby rural villages who were provided this facility here free of cost but now they will have to go to Shaikh Zayed Women Hospital in Larkana or if their pockets are filled with currency then they will seek C-section at private medical facilities.

In this connection, Dr. Muhammad Sharif Pirzado, Medical Superintendent (MS) of the hospital has written a letter to Senior IHS Manager, District Health Officer (DHO) and copies of which have also been sent to District and Sessions Judge, Deputy Commissioner and other government authorities informing them about the plight of the hospital and stopping of the operation but nothing has yet come out. He said 40 to 70 C-sections are carried out here monthly but IHS ignored everything. He said he even telephonically requested the IHS manager to provide anesthesia support as pregnant women have been admitted for C-section but he vehemently refused it hence the attendants of admitted women took them away to other medical facilities. He claimed that internal matters are to be resolved by MS and not by IHS. He alleged that the IHS manager wants to control and run the hospital as per his own personal will and is constantly creating problems for him by interfering in the internal affairs instead of helping him to run it properly. He demanded an inquiry against IHS manager for his failure to devise a backup plan for C-section and negative attitude.
