In view of the ongoing water crisis in Naseerabad Division, emergency discussions were held today between the Chief Ministers of Balochistan and Sindh. The talks resulted in a commitment to undertake joint efforts to address the severe water shortage affecting agriculture in the region.
Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti contacted Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to deliberate on the issue of acute water scarcity in the canals of Naseerabad Division. This situation has severely impacted the agricultural sector and local farmers, raising concerns regarding the equitable distribution of water resources.
Mir Saleem Khan Khosa, the Parliamentary Leader of Pakistan Muslim League (N) in Balochistan, brought the issue to the forefront during a meeting with Chief Minister Bugti. He detailed the adverse effects of the water scarcity on the local farming community.
In response, the Chief Ministers of Balochistan and Sindh engaged in a comprehensive dialogue, agreeing to mutual cooperation and joint initiatives aimed at resolving the water crisis. They have instructed their respective irrigation ministers to convene in Sukkur, where they will meet with relevant officials to evaluate the situation and discuss viable solutions.
This gathering in Sukkur will include all assembly members from the Naseerabad Division, who will contribute to the discussions on various proposals designed to address the water shortage and seek a lasting resolution to the crisis.
Shahid Rind, the Provincial Minister for Information and Political Affairs in Balochistan, emphasised the provincial government”s commitment to safeguarding the interests of farmers and landowners. He assured that Balochistan is making every possible effort to secure its rightful share of water resources.
Continued collaboration and dialogue between the Balochistan and Sindh governments are deemed essential to solve the water issues through mutual consultation and understanding, ensuring the sustainability of agriculture in the region.
